The Greater Hartford Academy of Mathematics and Science provides students with exciting supplementary scientific experiences through unique teaching methods and the use of state-of-the-art technology. These activities are designed to motivate students toward higher levels of achievement in the natural sciences, connect students to real world applications of science and technology, and integrate concepts of math into the basic principles of scientific exploration. The ability to make connections between mathematics and science empowers students with knowledge, confidence, and motivation that extend beyond the classroom.
Special Features:
- State-of-the-art laboratories for research on cell cultures, lasers/photonics, molecular genetics, robotics/electronics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), botanical studies, forensic science, and nuclear physics
- Advanced courses in Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Nuclear Physics, Thermodynamics, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, and Pharmacology.
- Advanced placement courses include Bi8ology, Chemistry, Classical Mechanics (Physics C), Electricity and Magnetism (Physics C), Claculus AB and BC, Statistics and Computer Science.
- Freshman and sophomores take two sciences and one math each year. Freshman take physics and earth science and sophomores take chemistry and biology. Freshman and sophomore math option include Algebra1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Pre-calculus.
- Diverse student body from over 30 cities and towns in the greater Hartford area, representing urban, suburban, and rural districts.
- 2010-2011 adding full 11th grade
